Nepal recently banned 26 social media platforms, including Facebook and YouTube. As you’d expect, the youth didn’t take the news well. The combination of this stifling of free expression along with growing concerns about NepoKids, the children of the powerful who keep landing exactly where you’d expect, prompted young people in Nepal to rise up and overthrow their own government. Parliament is now happening on Discord (yes, for real) and Nepal has sworn in its first female Prime Minister, a landmark moment that deserves more attention than it’s getting.
